Japanese toy company Kaiyodo recently unveiled two new products from "Kaiju No. 8": the large-scale finished products from the "MEGA SOFVi" series, "Kaiju No. 8" and "Ashiro Mina", both 1/18 scale pre-painted figures! Color samples of both figures will be exhibited for the first time at the "Wonder Festival 2024 [Winter]" venue, held on February 11, 2024.
"Kaiju No. 8," created by Japanese manga artist "Naoya Matsumoto," is set in Japan, where kaiju appearance rates are extremely high. The protagonist, "Kafka Hibino," had a grand ambition since childhood to join the Defense Force and fight kaiju. However, due to multiple failed attempts, he had long given up on joining the Defense Force and instead took on the job of disposing of kaiju corpses, reaching the age of 32. One day, a young man named "Reno Ichikawa" became Kafka's junior. Unexpectedly, the two were suddenly attacked by a kaiju. After Kafka saved Reno, he decided to try joining the Defense Force again. That very night, an unknown creature invaded Kafka's body, transforming him into an extremely powerful kaiju, which the world came to call "Kaiju No. 8"...
This time, the "MEGA SOFVi Kaiju No. 8," sculpted by Japanese sculptor "Nendo Seijin (RYO)," who specializes in animal and kaiju designs, not only boasts an incredibly imposing large size but also features outstanding detailing of Kaiju No. 8's rough, hard skin and the exposed bone structure of its head. The paintwork, brimming with a strong biological feel, the neatly arranged sharp teeth, and the piercing greenish-blue eyes are particularly spectacular. On the other hand, the prototype for "Ashiro Mina," captain of the Defense Force's Third Division, was handled by Taro Murai, fully capturing her stern eyes, flowing ponytail, and the intricate details and metallic heft of her specialized weapon, the heavy sniper cannon. Furthermore, the accompanying "Vah-Tiger" (伐虎) adds to the high completeness of the piece.
