KAIYODO, a Japanese toy company, has officially announced the latest product in its Earth creature-themed large-scale art statue series "NATURE TALES": "Dinosaur King" (恐竜王)! It is scheduled for release in September 2024, with a suggested retail price of 50,000 JPY, and is limited to 300 units worldwide.
Following numerous marine mammal and fish creations, NATURE TALES now turns its attention to land, bringing the king of the Mesozoic Era, the "Tyrannosaurus Rex," to life in a 32.5 cm tall three-dimensional form. The prototype was sculpted by chief animal sculptor Shinobu Matsumura, using Polystone as the material. The Tyrannosaurus Rex's entire body, from its scales to the rough, uneven texture of its skin, is meticulously carved, and a sophisticated painting technique conveys a strong sense of biological realism. While the existence of feathers remains a subject of debate among experts, the production team decided to create striped feathers growing along the spine from the top of this Tyrannosaurus Rex's head to the tip of its tail. Furthermore, in its open mouth, in addition to the sharp teeth, the viscous muscles of the oral cavity are also exquisitely painted.
This piece not only presents a majestic Tyrannosaurus Rex, but the Triceratops skull at its feet also features spectacular detail, including exposed white bone, faded skin, peeling scales, and horns that have lost their luster and vitality. This not only highlights the Tyrannosaurus Rex's position at the top of the food chain but also accentuates its overflowing vitality. The base is also a round pedestal carved from solid wood and comes with a "Dinosaur King" golden nameplate. Additionally, it includes cotton gloves to prevent fingerprints, the artist's signature, and a numbered certificate, making it highly collectible.
