BANDAI CANDY, the Shokugan business division of Bandai Co., Ltd. Japan, has announced the latest product from its popular Shokugan series, "Mobile Suit Gundam G-FRAME FA," the "G-Defenser & SHACKLES Set" from "Mobile Suit Z Gundam," scheduled for release in June 2024.
In "Mobile Suit Z Gundam," after the outbreak of the Gryps Conflict and the intervention of the third faction, Axis, the three-way war spread from ground to space. In the later stages of the conflict, both the Titans and Axis successively introduced transformable mobile suits like the Gaza series and Gabthley, which were adapted for high mobility in space. Although the AEUG had new transformable prototype mobile suits such as the "Z Gundam" and "Methuss," the majority of their mobile suits, including the Gundam Mk-II, still lacked sufficient mobility to counter these threats. Therefore, they developed the "SHACKLES," a space combat flight auxiliary device capable of carrying mobile suits, and the "G-Defenser," an enhanced fighter specifically for the Gundam Mk-II. When the Gundam Mk-II combined with the G-Defenser to form the "Super Gundam," it appeared to address the shortcomings of insufficient firepower and cruising range in the later stages by using a long-range beam rifle and additional thrusters. However, due to its oversized backpack, it became even more vulnerable to highly mobile enemy units in close combat.
The "G-FRAME FA G-Defenser & SHACKLES Set" product includes the G-Defenser and SHACKLES support units, as well as the beam saber that was not previously included with the Gundam Mk-II. Following the G-FRAME FA series style, the armor surfaces are intricately sculpted with rich armor lines, thruster nozzles, and fuel tanks. The SHACKLES can accommodate AEUG-affiliated mobile suits from "Z Gundam" such as the Z Gundam and Hyaku-Shiki. The G-Defenser also recreates the missile hatch deployment mechanism and the combination mechanism with the separately sold "G-FRAME FA 05 Gundam Mk-II," allowing for the recreation of the "Super Gundam" wielding its long-range beam rifle.
