BANDAI SPIRITS' Collectors Division TAMASHII NATIONS, known for its S.H.Figuarts action figure brand and the film/TV-themed CineToy TAMASHII series, is set to release a new figure from the multi-award-winning 2023 animated film "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." Following popular releases like Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Spider-Man 2099, fans can now look forward to the "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Spider-Punk" Action Figure. This highly anticipated collectible will retail for 9,900 JPY and is scheduled for a July 2024 launch.
"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," co-directed by Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers, is the acclaimed animated sequel to "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." The story picks up a year and four months after Miles Morales became the Spider-Man of Earth-1610. While he's successfully fought numerous criminals, he still deeply misses his fellow Spider-Friends. It's then that Ghost-Spider, Gwen Stacy, appears before Miles, introducing him to the vast Spider-Society across the multiverse. To defeat the formidable multiversal threat known as The Spot, Miles follows Gwen on an adventure to discover his own identity and save the multiverse.
Spider-Punk, whose real name is Hobie Brown, hails from Earth-138. He made a striking debut in the film, immediately captivating audiences with his distinctive art style, thick British accent, and undeniably cool demeanor, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about characters.
This "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Spider-Punk" figure stands approximately 17.5 cm tall, faithfully recreating Spider-Punk's iconic look from the film. From the spikes on his head to his distressed short-sleeve T-shirt, plaid pants, and studded belt, every detail is meticulously rendered. The badges and patterns on his vest are also packed with intricate details, all showcasing Hobie's rebellious, anti-establishment punk spirit. An included bracelet on his wrist allows for multiversal travel, and even his ever-present guitar, adorned with numerous stickers, is perfectly replicated.
In terms of accessories, besides the bracelet and guitar, the figure comes with six interchangeable hand parts, a studded neck collar, and an unmasked head sculpt of Hobie that's arguably even cooler than his Spider-Punk persona. Spider-Punk merchandise has been highly anticipated by fans since the film's release. Collectors who loved "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" won't want to miss out on this one!
"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" achieved an excellent balance between commercial success and artistic merit, thanks to its distinctive art style, compelling plot, and a soundtrack produced by renowned American hip-hop artist Metro Boomin. Since its June 2023 release, the film has garnered numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature. Its box office performance has been equally impressive, grossing $690 million to become Sony Pictures' highest-grossing animated film of all time. For any collectors who haven't seen it yet, this film comes highly recommended!
