US toy brand NECA recently announced a new product based on the 1987 animated version of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" – the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Cartoon) Ultimate Evil Rex-1" 7-inch action figure, with a suggested retail price of US$49.99, now available at the well-known US hypermarket TARGET!
Rex-1 first appeared in the second season of the 1987 animated version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Initially designed to alleviate the burden on the New York City police, he was programmed to be unconditionally loyal to his operator. However, he was accidentally activated prematurely by the protagonist April O'Neil, thus regarding April as his superior. Later, Rex-1's program was stolen by Shredder to create an army of evil Rex-1 robot police, who engaged in an intense battle with the Ninja Turtles.
This "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Cartoon) Ultimate Evil Rex-1" recreates the image of Shredder's evil robot police from the 1987 animated version. His eyes are no longer as benevolent as Rex-1's, and the original police uniform coloring has been changed to a black and white scheme. His sturdy body has been transformed into a destructive weapon. The paint application maintains NECA's consistent high quality for the cartoon version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with flat colors and black outlines recreating the art style of cel animation, preserving the cartoonish feel while being three-dimensional. A major highlight this time is the movable mechanism on the chest, which can be lifted to reveal the internal mechanical structure, allowing for scenes of Shredder adjusting and manufacturing evil robot police!
