BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd.'s collector's toy division, TAMASHII NATIONS, has officially announced today the latest product from the classic alloy toy「Chogokin」series, the「Gundam Calibarn」from "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury," scheduled for release in August 2024.
TheX-EX01 Gundam Calibarnis a prototype GUND-type mobile suit developed by the Vanadis Institute. After losing to the Lfrith in the bidding phase, all development files were deleted. The remaining prototype was seized and sealed by the Space Assembly League during the Vanadis Incident 21 years prior. It was only unsealed at the end of the main story to combat the "Quiet Zero" project and piloted by the protagonist, Suletta Mercury. Its appearance resembles a witch with a broom, and it is equipped with a "Variable Rod Rifle" featuring four thrusters and high firepower, also compatible with the GUND-Bits of the Aerial series. However, lacking a Data Storm Filter, it relentlessly pursues machine performance while completely disregarding pilot safety, earning it the reputation of a "monster."
The「Chogokin Gundam Calibarn」is crafted as a highly articulated figure, standing approximately 18.8 cm tall. Its overall design is based on the anime's settings, further enhancing the pristine white exterior armor with intricate panel lines, grooves, and other details. It utilizes a variety of materials, including molded plastic, clear parts, and alloy components, along with multi-layered color applications in white, gray, and black, complemented by various body markings, to achieve an even more diverse level of detail.
The characteristic "Permet Score" glowing areas of the mobile suit not only utilize built-in LED light-emitting mechanisms in the head, chest, thighs, and other locations to reproduce the red glow of Score 5, but the black outer cover, adorned with linear patterns, also undergoes a special "IRIS plating" process. This allows it to reflect a rainbow-like radiance, as if surpassing Score 8, depending on the angle of light or viewing perspective.
The weaponry includes the witch's broom-like "Variable Rod Rifle," beam sabers, and a shield. The four thrusters at the rear of the Variable Rod Rifle feature an interlocking design, automatically extending and retracting upon deployment. The shield can also separate into 11 GUND-Bits, which can be displayed surrounding the mobile suit using auxiliary stands, or attached to various parts of the body to recreate the "Bit on Form" enhanced configuration.
