The 'HG (High Grade)' series of 1/144 scale Gunpla, known for its diverse range of mobile suits, produced by the HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, today announced the latest product from the new anime "Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance", the "HG 1/144 Gundam EX (Requiem for Vengeance)", scheduled for release in autumn 2024.
The new anime "Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance", produced using Unreal Engine 5, will be exclusively streamed on Netflix, featuring a total of 6 episodes (30 minutes each). The story is set in the Universal Century stage of the original "Mobile Suit Gundam", depicting a brand new original story that takes place on the European front during the One Year War. This work is a collaboration between Sunrise and SAFEHOUSE, utilizing realistic 3DCG animation to portray war scenes. In the currently released teaser trailer, one can also witness the shocking scene of a group of Zeon soldiers piloting Zaku units, witnessing the "Gundam"'s powerful destructive force for the first time.
For "Requiem for Vengeance", the mobile suit design is handled by Kimitoshi Yamane, who was previously responsible for the mechanical design of "Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team". He reinterpreted Kunio Okawara's original drafts into a more realistic style. In the newly released "HG 1/144 Gundam EX (Requiem for Vengeance)", one can also observe Yamane's preferred design style, which incorporates "mechanical structures of real-world machinery" and "functional and rational industrial design" into the RX-78 series Gundam. The armor structure outside the frame and the principles of weapon placement are completely different from the original settings.
Although detailed product information for the "HG 1/144 Gundam EX (Requiem for Vengeance)" has not yet been released, official development CG images show that to faithfully reproduce the in-anime appearance, the detail density of each part already surpasses previous HG products. From the exposed pipelines of the frame, the segmentation and layering of the armor, to the detailed modeling of the back-mounted Gatling gun and ammunition box, everything is fully sculpted. Even the simplest beam saber hilt is packed with details, giving it a realistic military weapon style that makes one eager to apply weathering effects.
