Released by the HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., the 1/144 scale Gunpla 'HG (High Grade)' series, known for its most diverse range of mobile suits, today announced the latest product from the new anime "Mobile Suit Gundam Requiem for Vengeance", the 'HG 1/144 Zaku II Solari's Custom (Requiem for Vengeance)', slated for release in Autumn 2024.
The new anime "Mobile Suit Gundam Requiem for Vengeance", produced using Unreal Engine 5, will be exclusively streamed on Netflix, consisting of 6 episodes (30 minutes each). The story is set in the Universal Century era of the original "Mobile Suit Gundam", depicting a brand new original story that takes place on the European front during the One Year War. This work is a collaboration between Sunrise and SAFEHOUSE, utilizing realistic 3DCG animation to portray war scenes. In the currently released teaser trailer, one can also witness the shocking scene of a group of Zeon soldiers piloting Zakus, witnessing the immense destructive power of a "Gundam" for the first time.
For "Requiem for Vengeance", the mobile suit designs are handled by Kimitoshi Yamane, who was previously responsible for the mechanical designs in "Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team", reinterpreting Kunio Okawara's original drafts into a more realistic style. The model announced this time, the 'HG 1/144 Zaku II Solari's Custom (Requiem for Vengeance)', is the mobile suit piloted by the Zeon military protagonist, Iria Solari. Its overall design retains the original silhouette but features significant modifications to its detailed styling. The blade-shaped communication antenna on the head has been moved to both sides, and the armor features numerous new seams, maintenance hatches, and other details. The right shoulder shield is not only larger but also has a more realistic structural design at its connection point, showcasing Kimitoshi Yamane's preferred design style, which emphasizes "mechanical structures found in real-world machinery" and "functional and rational industrial design".
While detailed product information for the 'HG 1/144 Zaku II Solari's Custom (Requiem for Vengeance)' has not yet been released, official development CG images reveal that to faithfully reproduce its in-show appearance, the detail density of each part already surpasses previous HG products. Furthermore, the leg power pipes feature a brand-new movable design. Instead of the original single, direct connection between the upper and lower leg power pipes, they are now segmented and linked to external movable pivots, thereby enhancing the range of motion for the legs. In addition to the familiar Heat Hawk and Zaku Machine Gun, the right shoulder shield also boasts a weapon configuration different from standard Zaku II specifications.
