BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan has announced today the latest product from the theatrical animation "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM", the "HG 1/144 Lightning Buster Gundam", from the 1/144 scale Gunpla "HG (High Grade)" series, which boasts the most diverse range of mobile suits. It is scheduled for release on September 21, 2024.
The ZGMF-103HD Lightning Buster Gundam is a mobile suit secretly modified by the Atlantic Federation using the latest technology after transferring the Duel Gundam and Buster Gundam to the Z.A.F.T. military. Its power source has been replaced with a nuclear engine, which is restricted by the Junius Treaty, and it is similarly assigned to its original pilot, Dearka Elsman. The mobile suit continues the concept of a long-range artillery support unit, with its armaments further enhanced. Its primary artillery weapons no longer require linking two separate weapons; instead, it directly mounts two foldable beam cannons that can be deployed from the waist or shoulders.
The "HG 1/144 Lightning Buster Gundam" is produced using Bandai's latest color separation and part division technology, utilizing molded part colors to reproduce the mobile suit's colors as accurately as possible. Notably, the aiming sensors on both shoulders and the red armor feature independent parts. It also incorporates the "SEED Action System," which allows for the recreation of classic poses from the Gundam SEED series. With flexible joint designs such as double joints in the forearms and independently swinging hip joints for the legs, you can pose it in cool battle stances from the show.
Regarding its armaments, the beam cannons on both sides of the waist can recreate their deployed state by replacing barrel parts. The two missile pods located on the backpack can also open their hatches to reveal the internal warhead designs. Furthermore, the two large foldable beam cannons on the back faithfully reproduce their folding and deployment mechanism, allowing them to be deployed over the shoulders or at the waist via movable supports, enabling dynamic artillery poses.
