American toy brand Sideshow Collectibles has announced a new product based on Marvel Comics' X-Men series characters — "FASTBALL SPECIAL: COLOSSUS AND WOLVERINE." It will be released in two different versions under its "Statues" and "PREMIUM FORMAT™" series, with suggested retail prices of US$755 and US$1050 respectively, and is expected to ship in Q3 2024!
The Fastball Special first appeared in "X-Men #100" and is a frequently used team-up move by Colossus and Wolverine of the X-Men. Colossus lifts Wolverine with one hand and throws him into battle like a shot put, rapidly delivering him to attack. It is one of the most famous team-up techniques in Western popular culture, and many other heroes have used this move since!
First, let's introduce the Statues series version. The entire piece stands approximately 45.7 cm (18 inches) tall and 37.93 cm (14.93 inches) wide, depicting Colossus and Wolverine in the dynamic pose of executing the Fastball Special. It meticulously showcases their classic hero costumes, perfectly recreating Colossus's metallic, muscular, and smooth physique, and Wolverine's veiny muscle lines. The base sculpture is designed as the exploding, shattered face of the classic X-Men villain, a Sentinel robot, combined with the clever idea of the two characters stepping out of a comic book, presenting Colossus as if he's about to hurl Wolverine out of the comic – truly incredibly cool!
The PREMIUM FORMAT™ series version, on the other hand, reaches an impressive height of 61 cm (24 inches). The overall design is largely similar to the Statues series version, but the larger size allows for the display of details such as scratches on the characters' battle suits. The enlarged scale enhances the statue's depiction of power and beauty, offering a greater sense of battlefield realism compared to the Statues version. Both versions have their unique merits, making it difficult to choose!
