If the "10316 Rivendell" released by Danish LEGO Group in 2023 was an elegant and sacred elven sanctuary, then the "10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr", officially launching on June 4, 2024, with a price tag of US$459.99, is the very embodiment of malice seeking to shroud all of Middle-earth in darkness!
Barad-dûr, also known as the Dark Tower, is the colossal fortress built by the Dark Lord Sauron in Mordor during the Second Age, infused with the power of the One Ring. The Eye of Sauron, perched atop the tower and constantly watching over Middle-earth, is one of the most iconic symbols of the entire saga. This "10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr," constructed from 5471 pieces, stands an impressive 83 cm tall once assembled. From the front, your attention will undoubtedly first be captured by the Eye of Sauron, formed from transparent orange bricks. Below it lies the dark and ominous tower body, exuding immense power, and further down, a scene of molten lava. The front exterior boasts an exceptionally high degree of completion.
▼ Behold this astonishingly massive size!
Turning Barad-dûr around reveals its easily accessible interior, which includes an Orc weapon forge, a detention cage, a dining area on the second floor, the throne room on the third floor, the Mouth of Sauron's chamber on the fourth floor, and a library with a spiral staircase on the fifth floor. Beyond play features such as a hidden map of Middle-earth revealed by opening the throne, an opening gate, and a light-up Eye of Sauron, the various helmets included are also fantastic! Among them are the Orc-style helmets worn by Frodo and Sam during their infiltration. The official website also mentions the inclusion of a Galadriel's Phial piece containing sacred spring water.
Finally, regarding the minifigures, this set features a total of 10 characters, including Gollum, Frodo, Sam, the named Orc Gothmog, Orc soldiers, the Mouth of Sauron, and a debut appearance of Sauron himself, equipped with an elaborate helmet and mace.
