T-ARTS, a toy brand under Japan's TAKARA TOMY Company, is set to release a gashapon product themed around Japanese Sengoku warlords – the "Sengoku Busho Sofubi Collection" gashapon. The suggested retail price is 300 JPY per capsule, with an anticipated release in June 2024!
Even if you're not a history buff, we believe most toy enthusiasts have at least heard the names of the three Sengoku warlords: Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu. The Sengoku period was a turbulent era in Japanese history, marked by regional warlords vying for power, national division, and frequent warfare. The Sengoku period was a crucial time for the development of Japan's feudal system and samurai culture, laying the foundation for Japan's unification. The three warlords mentioned above all had a profound impact on the development of Sengoku history: Oda Nobunaga was Toyotomi Hideyoshi's lord, and after Nobunaga's death, Hideyoshi inherited his ambition to unify Japan, becoming the primary leader of the Toyotomi regime; Tokugawa Ieyasu, on the other hand, was a rival force to Toyotomi, ultimately emerging victorious in the Battle of Sekigahara, ushering in the Edo period, which influenced Japanese politics and culture for centuries.
This "Sengoku Busho Sofubi Collection" gashapon transforms the three important Sengoku warlords – Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu – into soft vinyl figures with approximately three-head proportions. Crafted based on the portrait paintings of these three historical figures that have been passed down to the present day, the figures faithfully recreate their poses and facial features from the paintings. The paint application also reproduces the brushstrokes found in the original artworks. The serious expressions combined with the chibi proportions create a delightfully incongruous charm, adding significant fun to the designs of these historical figures!
