Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company's Collectors Division TAMASHII NATIONS' action figure brand S.H.Figuarts, following "Kaiju No. 8", "Mina Ashiro", and "Reno Ichikawa", has now launched a new product based on the 《Kaiju No. 8》 theme – the "Kaiju No. 9" action figure. It has a suggested retail price of 9,900 JPY and is scheduled for release in October 2024!
《Kaiju No. 8》is a manga series created by Japanese manga artist Naoya Matsumoto on the online manga platform "Shonen Jump+". In 2024, it was adapted into an anime series by Production I.G and released on the streaming platform NETFLIX. The story follows Kafka Hibino, who works at a kaiju corpse clean-up company. In the past, he and his childhood friend Mina Ashiro promised to join the Defense Force together to eliminate all kaiju, but for various reasons, he gave up on this dream. By chance, Kafka gains the ability to transform into the powerful "Kaiju No. 8". With the encouragement and assistance of his new company colleague Reno Ichikawa, he decides to once again pursue his goal of becoming a Defense Force member and fighting alongside Mina.
The antagonist of this work, "Kaiju No. 9", first appeared in chapter six of the manga during the Defense Force examination arc. It is the first kaiju discovered to possess linguistic abilities, and upon its appearance, it resurrected all the kaiju that Kikoru had defeated, plunging the squad members back into crisis. This Kaiju No. 9 stands approximately 19 cm tall, matching the height of the previously released Kaiju No. 8. Its overall design faithfully recreates its main appearance in the series, with detailed sculpting that conveys an unsettling organic feel, and paintwork that highlights its lean musculature. For accessories, it includes 3 interchangeable head parts, 8 interchangeable wrist parts for both left and right hands, and 4 types of hand effect parts, which notably include an effect for Kaiju No. 9 about to unleash an attack with its finger, allowing for the recreation of the immense pressure it exerts on the squad members during its attacks!
This release will also include an interchangeable face part for Kaiju No. 8. This serious expression, when displayed with Kaiju No. 9 in a battle scene, looks incredibly cool!
