The black avenger returns! Japan's GOOD SMILE COMPANY's plastic model kit series "MODEROID" will release a plastic model kit of the protagonist Akito Tenkawa's personal unit, "Black Sarena" (ブラックサレナ), from the classic anime film "Martian Successor Nadesico: The Prince of Darkness" in December 2024! Priced at 9,800 JPY.

"Martian Successor Nadesico" (機動戦艦ナデシコ) is a sci-fi anime produced by Japan's XEBEC animation studio, featuring both mecha elements and romantic comedy. It first aired on TV Tokyo in 1996. The story follows the protagonist, Akito Tenkawa (アキト), who, due to certain circumstances, reunites with his childhood friend Yurika and boards the battleship "Nadesico." By a twist of fate, he becomes a pilot of the mobile weapon Aestivalis and engages in combat. From this starting point, the story describes Akito's subsequent encounters with many companions and his battles against enemies.
In the theatrical film "Martian Successor Nadesico: The Prince of Darkness," Akito pilots the Black Sarena (ブラックサレナ). Its appearance is dark and heavily armored, but inside, it actually conceals Akito's personal old unit, the Aestivalis. Clad in external armor and high-mobility components, its only weapons are two machine gun cannons. Its overall image perfectly matches Akito, who has lost his sensory perception and is cloaked in black, often operating alone and in secret, silently, like a black avenger returned from hell.
This Black Sarena released by MODEROID stands approximately 19 cm tall (robot head height is about 16 cm) and faithfully recreates its appearance from the original work. Through armor separation, it reproduces the setting of the embedded Aestivalis, and it includes a dedicated special plastic frame, allowing both the Black Sarena and Aestivalis units to be displayed simultaneously. Each joint is articulated, and detailed mechanisms such as nozzles are also reproduced on the inner sides of the shoulder, waist, and wing armor. Its armaments include two handheld machine gun cannons, which can be stored on its shoulders. With sufficient color separation, part division, and decals, a high level of completion can be achieved upon assembly.
