Following the release of 1/4 scale full body statues of "Michael Jordan" and "Larry Bird" based on the NBA, the world's premier basketball league, American collectible manufacturer Premium Collectibles Studio (PCS) once again unveiled its latest product yesterday (4th): "Magic Johnson"! Both a regular edition and a limited edition will be released simultaneously, with an estimated shipping date in Q4 2024 and a suggested retail price of US$657 for both.
Before the "Air Jordan" Michael Jordan dominated the league in the 90s, the NBA in the 80s was largely ruled by the "Black and White Duo" or "West Magic, East Bird." "West Magic, East Bird" refers to Magic Johnson of the Western Conference's Los Angeles Lakers and Larry Bird of the Eastern Conference's Boston Celtics. The subject of this piece, Magic Johnson, is historically the greatest point guard. His passes were incredibly varied, possessing both the delicate precision of threading a needle and the audaciousness to consistently shock the entire arena. He also popularized the "no-look pass" technique, transforming the Lakers into a byword for spectacular fast breaks. Standing at 206 cm, he could play all five positions, from point guard to center, and even assume different roles on both offense and defense within a single game, truly earning him the title of "all-around."
This piece stands approximately 59.6 cm tall, recreating Magic Johnson in his prime, wearing the Lakers' number 32 jersey. The pose, with his right hand dribbling and his left index finger extended as if directing teammates' movements, is incredibly lifelike. The staggered legs, the facial contours from his younger days in the 80s, the sculpted musculature of his entire body, and the detailed depiction of his jersey, socks, and shoes are all meticulously crafted. Looking at it truly brings back memories of Magic Johnson's agile and fluid movements on the court! The base is designed based on a basketball court, the Los Angeles Lakers team, the number 32 jersey, and Magic Johnson's signature, infused with the thematic style of PCS's NBA product line.
▼ The limited edition (Silver Ex) simultaneously released by PCS features him in a yellow jersey and will include additional content such as a limited silver coin, a certificate, and more.
