Renowned poster design and toy company MONDO is expanding its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lineup with two new soft vinyl figures: Raphael and Ray Fillet. This follows their previous releases of Leonardo and Donatello, Michelangelo, and Mondo Gecko. Priced at $90 and $105 USD respectively, these figures will be available for pre-order on the official MONDO Shop website at noon CT on July 9th, with an estimated shipping date of January 2025.
This Raphael figure draws inspiration from 90s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles works, referencing both the classic cartoon series that aired from the 80s into the 90s and the vintage Playmates toy line. The color scheme pays homage to his 80s toy, which featured a bright green similar to Michelangelo's. The sculpt showcases strong musculature and intricate shell details, while Raphael's head captures his signature angry, fierce expression! For accessories, he comes with his iconic sai. His belt is cleverly designed with two slots to store the sai, allowing collectors to display them either in his hands or sheathed at his waist.
Joining Raphael in this release, and available exclusively through the MONDO Shop, is the Turtles' mutant ally, Ray Fillet! Ray Fillet first appeared in a comic included with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles breakfast cereal. In his backstory, he's an oceanographer mutated into a manta ray-human hybrid by mutagenic ooze, possessing echolocation and the ability to move freely both in water and on land. This figure pays tribute to Playmates' original Ray Fillet toy from the early 90s, faithfully recreating its cartoon-inspired design details. He also comes with his sidekicks, Fish Stix and Scarfish. The overall paint application combines matte and pearlescent finishes, and coupled with the various sea creatures sculpted around his body, it creates a visual effect reminiscent of being underwater!
