Danish LEGO toy company's new Super Mario series set "71438 Super Mario World™: Mario & Yoshi" has not only been fully revealed on the official LEGO website, but is also currently on display at the red-hot San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC)! Let's take a look at how this set, scheduled for release on October 1, 2024, and priced at US$129.99, performs! GO!
Updated July 26, 2024:
"Super Mario World (スーパーマリオワールド)" is a side-scrolling game released by Nintendo on the Super Famicom console in 1990. Not only did it introduce the new character "Yoshi" for the first time, but players could also control Mario riding Yoshi to clear levels and experience a more varied gameplay. Hidden elements were also set in many levels, making it a classic in the Super Mario series!
This set contains a total of 1215 pieces, and stands approximately 40 cm tall when completed. It features Mario riding Yoshi in a classic pixel-art style, and also includes a base depicting the map environment. In addition to deeply experiencing the charm of "Super Mario World" and its vibrant color composition, the model can be brought to life through mechanical linkages, as if the video game screen has come alive before your eyes! It's worth noting that the set also includes parts that can link with the Super Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach Starter Courses, further expanding the play experience.
▼ According to the experience of the LEGO fan community Beyond the Brick at the SDCC venue, it can be confirmed that the handle on the right side controls Yoshi's movement, while making Yoshi open its mouth and stick out its tongue requires using the other hand to operate the mechanism located on the back of Yoshi's head.
▼ Beyond the Brick also photographed the back of this "Super Mario World Mario & Yoshi" set. Although the initial impression might be a strong sense of unrefinedness, it's also understandable as a decision made by LEGO after considering factors such as total piece count, price, and size. After all, the visual effect presented from the front is truly excellent. What do you toy collectors think?
