Japan's "Mobile Suit Gundam" official Gunpla flagship store GUNDAM BASE today announced that the latest limited Gunpla "RG 1/144 Zeong [Special Coating Ver.]" is scheduled to be released at all stores starting August 17, 2024.
The MSN-02 Zeong is a Newtype-exclusive experimental mobile suit developed by the Principality of Zeon military at the end of the One Year War, equipped with a Psycommu system. It was also the personal mobile suit of the Red Comet, "Char Aznable," during his final battle against Amuro Ray's RX-78-2 Gundam at the space fortress A Baoa Qu. The most distinctive feature of this mobile suit is its "lack of legs," with its lower body utilizing several large-thrust propulsion units to provide powerful mobility. Its entire body is armed with 13 high-firepower MEGA Particle Cannons, and its wired 5-barrel MEGA Particle Cannons on both hands can even separate from the main body for all-directional attacks.
The "RG 1/144 Zeong [Special Coating Ver.]" is a modification of the previously released regular version. The original gray and blue parts have been given a metallic coating, while the red, yellow, and gray parts have been changed to metallic molded colors. This gives the entire model a heavy metallic luster and texture, enhancing the realism when combined with the already exquisite details and internal frame structure.
Aside from the molded colors, other specifications are essentially the same as the regular version. It meticulously recreates the precise internal structure based on the in-show settings, resulting in an excellent kit that combines both aesthetics and articulation. Not only is the high-density detail of the internal frame astonishing, but the segmented deployment of the skirt armor and the articulated design of the 7 large internal thrusters are even more outstanding than previous products with legs. The lower body can be significantly twisted to recreate various thrusting poses in different directions. The hand parts also feature flexible articulation for each finger, and metal wires are included to recreate scenes of the arms being remotely operated after separation.
