The popular alloy action figure "RIOBOT" series, produced by toy manufacturer Sentinel, officially announced today the latest collaborative product between "Evangelion" and manga artist Takeshi Okazaki, the "General-Purpose Humanoid Battle Weapon Musha Unit-01," slated for release in February 2025.

Since its announcement in 2019, this product project has undergone nearly five years of refinement before its official launch. The project invited Japanese manga artist Takeshi Okazaki, renowned for works such as "Afro Samurai" and "Batman Ninja," to handle the mecha design. He has reimagined the original "General-Purpose Humanoid Decisive Weapon EVANGELION Unit-01," piloted by protagonist Shinji Ikari, into the "General-Purpose Humanoid Battle Weapon Musha Unit-01," clad in Japanese armor and wielding a katana.

The "RIOBOT General-Purpose Humanoid Battle Weapon Musha Unit-01" stands approximately 25.5 cm tall. It is constructed with a combination of materials, including some die-cast joints and plastic exterior parts, to achieve its articulated specifications. The samurai armor design by Takeshi Okazaki is meticulously sculpted, subtly integrating rich elements such as family crests, straw sandals, and helmet ornaments into Unit-01's original restraints (armor). A rich color application brings out the metallic textures of various parts.

Its armaments include the specialized great tachi "Sunroku Katana" worn on its right hip, and a smaller tachi stored behind both shoulders. When the "Sunroku Katana" is drawn from its sheath, the blade pattern, rendered with color application, becomes visible. Coupled with the highly flexible articulated joint design throughout its body, it can not only recreate Unit-01's wild, berserk battle poses from the original series but also wield the tachi like a samurai, performing impressive sword techniques.
