The primary mystery for fans has been how Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) from the original film series connects with Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) from the 2010 remake. Entwistle offered a tantalizing clue, revealing that Mr. Han and Daniel's mentor, the legendary Mr. Miyagi, share a previously unknown history. "There's a connection between Mr. Han and Mr. Miyagi's families," he explained, but declined to elaborate further to avoid spoilers, promising the film will reveal all.

The new "Karate Kid" follows Li, a teenager from Beijing who moves to New York with his mother. Struggling to adapt to his new environment and school, Li finds himself constantly drawn into conflicts he tries to avoid. When a new friend needs help, he decides to enter a karate tournament to stand up for them. However, realizing his existing skills are not enough to win, his kung fu teacher, Mr. Han, seeks help from Daniel LaRusso to train the young fighter together. Li must ultimately master a new hybrid fighting style that merges the teachings of both mentors.

The cast also includes Ming-Na Wen, Sadie Stanley, and Joshua Jackson. Ben Wang, who broke out in the Disney+ series "American Born Chinese," stars as the new "kid." The film is slated for a May 30, 2025 release.
