Following the release of first-look photos, Sony Pictures has dropped the first official trailer for the brand-new installment in "The Karate Kid" franchise, helmed by "The End of the F***ing World" director Jonathan Entwistle.
The film unites two franchise legends: Jackie Chan, who starred in the 2010 reboot, and Ralph Macchio, reprising his iconic role as Daniel LaRusso from the original films and the hit series "Cobra Kai." Newcomers to the cast include Ming-Na Wen, Sadie Stanley, and Joshua Jackson. Ben Wang, who recently broke out in the Disney+ series "American Born Chinese," will star as the new "kid," Li.

Penned by Rob Lieber, co-writer of "Peter Rabbit," the story follows Li, a teenager from Beijing who moves to New York with his mother. Struggling to adapt to his new environment and school, Li finds himself constantly drawn into conflicts he tries to avoid. When a new friend needs help, he decides to enter a karate tournament to stand up for them.
However, his existing skills aren't nearly enough to win. His kung fu master, Mr. Han, seeks help from Daniel LaRusso to co-train Li. The young fighter must ultimately learn a new fighting style, blending the unique teachings of both mentors. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 30, 2025.
