Five years after Chadwick Boseman's passing from colon cancer, Marvel Studios initially opted not to recast, instead killing off Boseman's character, T'Challa, and having his on-screen sister, Shuri, take up the mantle as the new Black Panther. However, it appears Shuri's tenure as Black Panther might be short-lived. American film critic and journalist Jeff Sneider recently reported on his blog, "The InSneider," that Marvel has quietly shifted its strategy and begun the recasting process for T'Challa.

Sneider claimed in his report that with Robert Downey Jr. now confirmed to return as the villain Doctor Doom, Marvel plans to leverage the multiverse concept to introduce a new T'Challa. He added that Marvel extended an offer to an actor last fall, but the individual declined, citing the immense pressure of succeeding Boseman in the role and the potential career damage if audiences reacted negatively.

Sneider noted he is unsure if the new T'Challa will debut in "Avengers: Doomsday" or "Avengers: Secret Wars." However, he is confident the character will feature prominently in "Black Panther 3." Furthermore, director Ryan Coogler, who helmed the first two installments, and Denzel Washington, confirmed to appear in the third film, are reportedly assisting with the casting process. Sneider also speculated that, out of respect, Marvel would likely consult Boseman's family for their input.
Sneider did not specify Marvel's reasons for this potential shift in strategy, but he speculated it could be linked to the significant box office drop for "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." The sequel grossed approximately $850 million globally, a stark contrast to the first film's over $1.3 billion—a nearly $500 million difference. Additionally, Sneider mentioned that Marvel was reportedly dissatisfied with Letitia Wright's performance as Shuri during the filming of the second movie.
However, another prominent entertainment scooper, MyTimeToShineHello, offered a counter-argument. According to MyTimeToShineHello, Marvel is actually looking to cast an older actor to portray T'Challa's son, who was introduced in the second film, rather than recasting T'Challa himself. Official confirmation remains elusive, leaving the accuracy of either report unverified.
