Classic Shojo Manga "The Rose of Versailles" Gets New MAPPA Anime Film, Premiering Late January!

It's been over 50 years since Riyoko Ikeda's iconic shojo manga, "The Rose of Versailles" (Berusaiyu no Bara), first graced the pages, but last July, fans were absolutely floored by the bombshell announcement: MAPPA is producing a brand-new theatrical anime film! Who would've thought this timeless classic would make such a grand comeback in the modern era?

Today (January 10th), the official team dropped even more voice cast details and confirmed the film's premiere date: January 31, 2025!

"The Rose of Versailles" (Berusaiyu no Bara) originally ran in Shueisha's *Margaret* magazine from 1972 to 1973. This gorgeous tale is set in the opulent Palace of Versailles during the late 18th-century Bourbon dynasty, following a young noblewoman who disguises herself as a man to serve as a royal guard, where she encounters a princess from the royal family.

Beyond its beloved TV anime adaptation, the series even inspired a stage play by Japan's renowned Takarazuka Revue. Its fame isn't just limited to Japan; it's a global phenomenon, with English translations making it accessible worldwide.
