VTubers Overtake YouTubers as Dream Job for Japanese Kids, New Survey Reveals

The VTuber phenomenon has been absolutely exploding in recent years! What started as a massive trend in Japan has now gone global, with virtual entertainers gaining serious traction in China, the U.S., and beyond. It seems like everyone, from seasoned pros to aspiring creators, wants a piece of the action, and it’s easy to see why this field is red-hot.

Now, it's official: VTubers are shaking things up in a big way! Japanese children's website "Nifty Kids" recently dropped the results of its "Future Dream Jobs" survey for elementary and junior high school students, and the findings are pretty wild. It turns out that VTubers have officially surpassed YouTubers in popularity, becoming one of the top dream careers for kids. For years, being a YouTuber was the ultimate goal, but the tides are definitely turning!

The survey specifically targeted elementary and junior high students, asking them about their dream jobs, the reasons behind their choices, and their thoughts on the future. Over two thousand valid responses poured in, giving us a fascinating glimpse into young minds.

When it came to elementary schoolers, "illustrator" snagged the top spot, while junior high students were eyeing "school teacher" as their number one. It's clear that as kids get older, their career aspirations become a bit more grounded, with "company employee" and "public servant" climbing the ranks for junior high students.

But here's where it gets interesting: VTubers, after their meteoric rise, have now climbed to an impressive fourth place overall! That puts them ahead of long-time favorites like YouTubers, doctors, novelists, musicians, and even idols. When asked why they want to become VTubers, the most common answers were, "It looks fun!" and "Because I love it!" Some kids even cited "family influence," "friend recommendations," and even the desire "to help others." It seems the love for VTubers is truly a family affair, spreading from one generation to the next!

The survey also highlighted the significant influence of family environments on career choices. A whopping 54% of children whose parents work as company employees expressed a desire to pursue the same profession.

Even more impressive, over 90% of elementary and junior high students already have a specific career goal in mind. It just goes to show that even at a young age, these kids are dreaming big and setting their sights high!

Ultimately, these results offer a fascinating look into how today's kids envision their futures and underscore the evolving career landscape of the digital generation. It's clear that the next wave of VTubers, illustrators, and teachers are already charting their course!
