Issued by Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division, the Gunpla "RG (Real Grade)" series, which incorporates intricate sculpting, articulated inner frames, and new technologies into the 1/144 scale, today announced its latest product from "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing," the "Wing Gundam Zero," slated for release in September 2025.
The XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero is the prototype for all Gundam mobile suits in the "Gundam Wing" universe. After developing the Tallgeese, six scientists, including Doctor J, improved upon its flaw of being uncontrollable by ordinary humans and pursued extremely high combat performance, ultimately designing the Wing Gundam Zero around A.C. 180. This mobile suit features armor made from "Gundamium alloy," which possesses high impact and heat resistance, and is equipped with the "ZERO System" to stabilize the pilot's body and mind. Its main armament, the "Twin Buster Rifle," boasts astonishing power, capable of destroying a space colony with a single shot at maximum output. However, possibly due to immature technology at the time or the drawbacks of the ZERO System, data on this mobile suit was sealed for a long period, and it was not officially produced and deployed in combat until A.C. 195.
The "RG Wing Gundam Zero" is produced with an entirely new sculpt, faithfully reproducing the mobile suit's sharp contours and rich armor colors with precise color separation and part division, featuring sophisticated detail sculpting. The white armor sections also continue the RG series' style, incorporating gray parts to enhance layering and a sense of weight. Additionally, the product includes RG's characteristic "Realistic Decals," printed with unit markings, color block lines, and other patterns to add abundant detail.
Regarding articulation, both hip joints feature independent sliding axes. When the knee joints bend, they interlock with the knee armor and calf armor, allowing the lower body to achieve more natural and flexible movements. The backpack wings adopt a five-axis movable design, allowing them to rotate in multiple directions. The internal thrusters rotate, extend, and link with the wing deployment as the components move.
Furthermore, various parts of the mobile suit feature numerous gimmicks, such as the outer shoulder armor opening to reveal thrusters and stored beam sabers, and the chest opening to expose the cockpit hatch and two internal Gatling guns. By swapping some parts, it can also transform into "Neo-Bird Mode."
Weapons include Beam Sabers, a Shield, and the iconic "Twin Buster Rifle." The shield features an extendable nose section and an RG original wing linkage mechanism, where activating one side simultaneously deploys both wings. The Twin Buster Rifle can separate and combine, and the rifle body features an RG original telescoping mechanism, allowing for dynamic and powerful shooting poses when paired with the weapon-holding hand equipped with a locking mechanism.
