Is That a Minecraft Tree in Japan? This Blocky Art Installation Has Everyone Questioning Reality!

A bizarre art installation has popped up in Fukuoka City's Tenjin district, and it's got everyone doing a double-take. Resembling something straight out of Minecraft, the blocky tree has sparked a massive buzz on X (formerly Twitter), with users exclaiming, "Is this real life or a video game?"

The viral post came from X user あれっくす (@NStyles), who shared a photo of the "tree-like device" taken in Tenjin, quipping, "A tree with an extremely low polygon count has sprouted in Tenjin." The image clearly shows the tree's foliage made up of countless cubes, giving it a distinct pixel-art vibe that messes with your perception.

This "Minecraft tree" isn't just a daytime marvel; it takes on a whole new vibe after dark. あれっくす also dropped some night shots, adding, "Here's what it looks like at night, a close-up of the unfinished parts, and the base." Lit up, the installation becomes even more striking, blurring the lines between game and reality even further.

The "pixel tree" ignited a flurry of comments online. "Totally gives off Minecraft vibes!" one user wrote. Another chimed in, "This made me think I'd entered a game world." And perhaps the most relatable: "If it weren't for the dude in the corner of the frame, I honestly couldn't tell if this was real or virtual."

Turns out, this isn't just some random glitch in the matrix. This massive modern art piece is the brainchild of renowned Argentine artist Leandro Erlich. It's set to be a symbolic installation for the upcoming "One Fukuoka Building," slated to open in April 2025. Composed of over 2,000 cubes, the structure delivers a truly unique visual spectacle.
