After Nearly Seven Years: Hololive's 2nd Gen "Elementary Schooler" Murasaki Shion Announces April Graduation

Hololive's 2nd generation "elementary schooler" VTuber, Murasaki Shion, dropped a bombshell announcement during a major livestream today (March 6th): she's graduating on April 26th this year. The reason? "Differences in direction" (方向性の違い) with management, leading to a tough decision to part ways. She expressed immense joy for her years of activity and heartfelt gratitude to all her fans for their unwavering support.

▼ The news immediately sent related terms trending on X.

Murasaki Shion debuted on August 17, 2018, as part of the 2nd generation alongside Minato Aqua, Yuzuki Choco, Oozora Subaru, and Nakiri Ayame, making her one of Hololive's early pioneers in the VTuber market. Often plagued by poor health, she frequently took hiatuses from activities. Over six years, she amassed an impressive 1.31 million channel subscribers.

Naturally, Hololive expressed gratitude for Shion's years of dedication, but ultimately couldn't reverse her decision to graduate.

Even COVER CEO Motoaki Tanigo (YAGOO) weighed in, stating:

We understand that fans may be concerned by the continuous graduation announcements. Like everyone else, we feel the same sense of loneliness whenever we see talent depart.

To enable each talent to maximize their potential, we provide support from various angles, including hololive EXPO, 3D live performances, corporate collaborations, and music production support, creating a system where talents can focus on their activities with peace of mind.

However, there are still areas for improvement, and I am currently creating opportunities to speak directly with our talents and working hard to make improvements. We will continue to do our utmost to ensure that both our talents and fans can smile.

Thank you for your continued support.

This follows a string of recent graduations, including Minato Aqua in August last year, and Hololive EN's Watson Amelia in October, along with Sakamata Chloe and Ceres Fauna. The sheer number of departures over the past year has understandably left fans worried. It's undoubtedly a tough pill to swallow for fans. With just over a month left, those who stan the "elementary schooler" should seize the moment and spend as much time as possible with her before she concludes her journey.
