Get ready, Gundam fans! The highly anticipated 2025 anime, "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX," is set to blast off this April, a powerhouse collaboration between "Neon Genesis Evangelion" studio Khara and "Mobile Suit Gundam" veterans Sunrise. Its theatrical prelude, "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-," has already raked in a whopping 3 billion yen at the Japanese box office, proving it's a hit right out of the gate.
This new series isn't just bringing fresh faces; it's also resurrecting some beloved characters from the "Mobile Suit Gundam" universe. And the biggest buzz? The return of none other than the legendary Char Aznable! But here's the kicker: he's got a brand-new voice actor, Yuuki Shin. At a recent stage event, Shin opened up about the immense pressure of taking on such an iconic role and how he approached bringing Char to life for a new generation.

The 31-year-old Yuuki Shin has made a name for himself with roles like Takemichi Hanagaki in "Tokyo Revengers," Tomokazu Wajima in "Haikyuu!!," Isao Furuhashi in "Kaiju No. 8," and even the Pumpkin Head Hijacker in "Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway."

While he's best known for his lead role in "Tokyo Revengers," stepping into the shoes of Shuichi Ikeda—the voice of Char for decades, a true veteran, and a voice Shin himself grew up listening to—is no small feat.
Shin admitted he was floored when he first learned he'd be voicing Char. His biggest challenge? Figuring out how to deliver a fresh take on the character without straying too far from the iconic image fans have cherished for so long.

During the event, Yuuki Shin even recreated one of Char's classic lines from "GQuuuuuuX" live: "Then let me see what this mobile suit can do." Reflecting on his portrayal of Char Aznable, Shin explained, "For me, Char's image is so deeply ingrained. So, when performing, I constantly thought about how to strike a balance between 'the original Char impression' and 'my own interpretation of Char.'"

He also highlighted a line he particularly enjoyed voicing: "Gundam, launching!" Shin recalled how director Kazuya Tsurumaki specifically advised him during recording, "Don't overdo it." This led him to meticulously adjust his tone and power, aiming to deliver "Char's version of 'Gundam, launching!'"
Shin acknowledged that some long-time fans might have reservations, given how iconic Shuichi Ikeda's portrayal of Char is. He expressed his hope that, with "GQuuuuuuX," everyone will come to accept his take on the legendary Red Comet.

With "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" hitting screens this April, and the "GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-" theatrical release already giving us a taste of the early episodes, fans are buzzing to see what this dream team-up between Khara and Sunrise will deliver. Get ready to find out when it officially premieres!
