Another Must-Visit for Trainers! Japan's Mie Prefecture Announces 'Oshawott Park' Opening July 2025

We've previously covered Japan's savvy marketing strategy of partnering local regions with the world of Pokémon. As a symbol of this unique collaboration, many areas boast their very own Support Pokémon, like Dragonite for Fukui Prefecture, Growlithe for Okinawa, and Sandshrew for Tottori.

Now, it's Mie Prefecture's turn to shine! The local government recently announced plans to build an "Oshawott Park," dedicated to its adorable Support Pokémon, Oshawott. This exciting new attraction aims to deepen the connection between visitors and Pokémon in Mie. Get ready, because the park is set to open in July 2025 at DAISEI Forest Park (Suzuka Youth Forest) in Suzuka City and Toba Port Sadahama New Port Green Space in Toba City!

These Pokémon-themed parks are no stranger to Japan, having proven to be massive tourist draws. Just look at the success of Fukushima Prefecture's Chansey Park, Kagawa Prefecture's Slowpoke Park, and Iwate Prefecture's Geodude Park – all fantastic examples of how these collaborations boost local tourism.

The upcoming "Oshawott Park" will feature super cute Oshawott-themed play equipment, inviting both kids and adults to dive headfirst into the Pokémon world. This initiative is spearheaded by The Pokémon Company's "My First Pokémon Project," designed to let children experience the joy of Pokémon and create cherished memories in the familiar setting of a park. Thanks to the strong partnership and support from the Mie Prefectural Government, Oshawott Park is becoming a reality, ready to delight both local residents and visitors!

But wait, there's more! Alongside the park's grand opening, the official Pokémon team will also donate seven brand-new "Poké Lids" (Pokémon manhole covers), showcasing charming designs of Oshawott and other beloved Pokémon. Mie Prefecture currently has 22 cities and towns adorned with Poké Lids, and these new additions will ensure that all 29 municipalities in the prefecture boast their very own unique covers, making the entire region a must-visit pilgrimage spot for Pokémon fans!

The Pokémon Company's continuous collaboration with local Japanese governments is a masterclass in embedding the Pokémon IP deeply into the hearts of people of all ages. This not only fosters a strong sense of local identity and connection with Pokémon but also benefits local governments through environmental beautification and increased tourism.

These partnerships truly highlight the incredible synergy between Pokémon and regional development. It's truly amazing to witness Japan's soft power in seamlessly blending its anime/manga IP culture with local government initiatives. Who knows, maybe one day every region in Japan will have its own dedicated Support Pokémon!
