Just days after Deadline exclusively revealed that Netflix is developing a new adaptation of Stephen King's 1981 horror novel "Cujo," veteran film reporter Jeff Sneider has added a major update. In his newsletter, The InSneider, he reports that "Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky is in talks to helm the new film.
This wouldn't be Aronofsky's first brush with a King adaptation. Five years ago, when a film version of "The Life Of Chuck," a story from King's collection "If It Bleeds," was announced, Aronofsky was attached as a producer. He eventually departed the project, with the director's chair going to Mike Flanagan. That film recently released its first official trailer.

The new version of "Cujo" will be produced by Roy Lee, known for his work on the "How to Train Your Dragon" trilogy and "The Lego Movie" franchise. Lee is no stranger to King's universe, having previously produced several adaptations, including the 2020 miniseries version of "The Stand," the rebooted "It" franchise, "The Shining" sequel "Doctor Sleep," and last year's new take on "Salem's Lot," which debuted directly on Max.
