"Alice, Doko Made Mo" Blasts Off with Manga Taisho 2025 Grand Prize! Kiko Urino's Astronaut Dream Story Takes the Crown

The "Manga Taisho 2025" awards ceremony, hosted by the Manga Taisho Executive Committee, was held today (March 27) in Tokyo, revealing its final winners! The grand prize went to Kiko Urino's captivating series, "Alice, Doko Made Mo" (ありす、宇宙までも). Judges showered praise on its unique take on a female astronaut's journey.

"Alice, Doko Made Mo" (ありす、宇宙までも) kicked off its serialization in Shogakukan's "WEEKLY BIG COMIC SPIRITS" back in June 2024. Currently, two Japanese tankobon volumes are out, with the third volume slated for release on March 28 this month.

The story follows a young girl's determined quest to become Japan's first female spaceship captain. Our protagonist, Alice Asahida, has a fateful encounter with her genius classmate, Rui Inuboshi. With his help, she throws herself into pursuing her astronaut dream, hoping to reach the "heaven" where her late parents reside.

Kiko Urino shared that the initial concept for "Alice, Doko Made Mo" was actually pitched for a shonen manga magazine. "For six or seven years, I kept drawing stories centered on 'setting a grand goal and relentlessly pursuing it,' but none of them ever made it past the serialization review. My editor suggested I try something warmer, more healing, something that would bring people comfort. So, I started crafting a story about a male and female protagonist learning together and forging a bond," Urino recounted. She emphasized that its current success is truly thanks to the support of many people.
