When it comes to Gunpla paint jobs, beyond the usual panel lining, scribing, or subtle shading, we've seen artists experiment with "2D style" and even "painting style" techniques.
Today, we're diving into the incredible work of Gunpla builder Kemushi Factory (@plasticfactory_k). They've taken the Gundam Aerial from *Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury* and given it an "anime-style" paint job that makes it look like it just leaped off the screen! The finish is so flawless, many netizens are calling it practically CGI.
While a standard, out-of-the-box Gunpla build with its original colors already looks pretty slick and display-ready, Kemushi Factory's "anime-style" version takes things to a whole new level! Not only are the panel lines meticulously inked, but shadows are also expertly painted in according to a simulated light source. The overall effect is so striking, it genuinely feels like an anime character has popped right out of the screen and is standing before you, creating an almost disorienting "Wait, is this actually 3D?" illusion.
The accompanying video even shows off the differences from various angles – front, side, and back – making it even harder to believe it's the same model!
Viewed independently, the model boasts a truly unique visual effect, shifting its appearance dramatically with every angle.
This incredibly high-fidelity anime paint job has left netizens stunned, with comments like: "Am I seeing things? The one on the right looks totally CGI!" "They even painted the shadows! It looks so natural from every angle, it's unbelievable." "Is this 2D or 3D? I can't even tell anymore!" and "It's like an anime character just burst out of the screen! Every single detail is perfect, truly amazing!"
Kemushi Factory has also shared many other anime-style Gundam builds on their personal Instagram and X accounts. Each one is a masterpiece and definitely worth checking out!
