Japan's high-end model manufacturer CCP JAPAN, to commemorate Gamera's 60th anniversary, is launching a new product in its high-end Garage Kit model series "Ultimate Phantom Sculpt": the "Gamera (1995)" head resin model, based on the movie "Gamera: Guardian of the Universe". It will be simultaneously released in both painted and Garage Kit versions, with reference prices of 120,000 JPY and 75,000 JPY respectively, and is expected to be released in September 2025!
This "Ultimate Phantom Sculpt Gamera" stands approximately 40 cm tall after assembly. It is personally crafted by Tomoo Haraguchi, the suit sculptor for Heisei Gamera. The prototype was created based on a replica mold of the actual Gamera head suit. First, a mold was made using latex, commonly used for monster suits, and texture details were added. Then, the initial prototype was molded with fiberglass to produce the final prototype for the product.
To recreate the structure of Gamera's eyeball surface, which is covered with a transparent membrane, a special internal and external double-layer structure was designed, restoring a three-dimensional pupil effect with depth! The painting process for the colored version references the actual Gamera suit, with Mr. Haraguchi providing on-site guidance using the paints he used at the time. Even subtle details like the oral blood vessels, which are difficult to discern in the film, are vividly reproduced!
Additionally, the simultaneously released Garage Kit version is divided into 7 types of parts: upper jaw, lower jaw, two teeth, tongue, and two eyeball covers. Upon factory release, burrs and mold lines are already processed and cleaned, allowing all toy enthusiasts to proceed directly with painting! The teeth are also made of transparent material. You can refer to the "Gamera Head Painting Guide" supervised by Tomoo Haraguchi and guided by the painting artist Saru Tajira for this release, to personally paint and recreate the vivid effects seen on screen at home!
