Japan's "Mobile Suit Gundam" official Gunpla flagship store GUNDAM BASE has announced its latest limited product from "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack", the "1/550 Alpha Azieru [Metallic Finish]", scheduled for pre-sale starting April 26, 2025, at the "Mobile Suit Gundam" themed facility "GUNDAM SIDE-F" in Fukuoka.
The gigantic MA "NZ-333 Alpha Azieru" is a Newtype-exclusive space weapon developed by Neo Zeon. Its design and technology are derived from mobile suits such as the Quin Mantha, Neue Ziel, and Qubeley, making it the culmination of Zeon-type Newtype-exclusive mobile suits. The Alpha Azieru has an overall length of nearly 108 meters, with two large thrusters mounted on its lower body. Its armaments include "Wired Psycho-communicator Mega Arm Cannons" on both arms, a "Mega Particle Cannon" in its mouth that can switch between convergent and diffuse firing modes, and nine "Funnel" units on its back. It is capable of annihilating enemy MS teams, fleets, and even fortress strongholds with terrifying all-range attacks. During the Second Neo Zeon War, it was piloted by the Newtype girl Quess Paraya, inflicting severe damage on the Londo Bell forces.
The newly released "1/550 Alpha Azieru [Metallic Finish]" is a modified version based on Bandai's old "1/550 Alpha Azieru" model kit from 1988. The molding colors of the Alpha Azieru and Nu Gundam parts have been changed to a brass-like metallic finish. Both the sculpts of the two mobile suits and the display base remain identical to the original product, combining the distinct seam lines of the old parts separation design with the rich ripple patterns brought by the modern metallic molding color.
However, even back then, this Alpha Azieru offered considerable playability. Its rear skirt armor was equipped with nine funnels, the auxiliary mechanical arms hidden within its shoulders featured movable designs, and it could deploy landing gear to transform into a landing configuration. The two large thruster units mounted on its lower body could also be detached at any time.
