The popular Tokusatsu and Kaiju-themed soft vinyl toy series 'MOVIE MONSTER', released by Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., has announced the latest product from the movie 'Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla', 'Mechagodzilla (2002) ver.2.0', scheduled for release in May 2025.
Appearing in the 2002 film 'Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla', Mechagodzilla is referred to in the film as "Type-3 Kiryu", with its official designation being "Multi-purpose Fighting System Type-3 (MFS-3)". This Kiryu was secretly constructed by the Japanese government using the skeletal remains of the original Godzilla salvaged from Tokyo Bay as its framework. Its propulsion system is controlled by a "DNA computer" structured from its bone marrow cells, allowing Kiryu to move with biological swiftness, fluidly execute close-quarters attacks, and even evade Godzilla's heat ray. It is also equipped with various armaments such as missiles, Type-0 Railguns, Maser Blades, and the Type-3 Absolute Zero Cannon. However, the G-forces generated during operation are beyond human endurance, thus requiring remote control via the support aircraft "AC-3 Shirasagi".
The "MOVIE MONSTER Mechagodzilla (2002) ver.2.0" features a completely new sculpt and paint application. Compared to the 2022 1.0 version, which had muddled details and a cheap color presentation, the 2.0 not only boasts a sharper, more imposing overall sculpt but also significantly enhanced resolution in its mechanical details. It utilizes rich metallic paint finishes such as heavy silver and gunmetal to articulate its outer armor, internal structures, and backpack armaments.
