The other day (April 24) was a big one for Nintendo fans, as the results of the Nintendo Switch 2 lottery were announced. X (formerly Twitter) was a mix of joy and despair, with many voice actors, VTubers, and celebrities sharing their wins. Even popular voice actor Yuichi Nakamura, a regular narrator for "Nintendo Direct," took to social media to lament his loss, sparking quite a buzz.
Nakamura's post jokingly declared he'd "unfriend" anyone who won, and among the lucky winners was his Hololive VTuber friend, Shirakami Fubuki. He then playfully shared a screenshot of her being "blocked." While it was clearly a lighthearted exchange between the two, some of Shirakami Fubuki's supporters were reportedly offended and angered by his actions, even criticizing Nakamura in the comments, which ignited a wider discussion among netizens.

On the day the lottery results dropped, Nakamura's X feed was a scene of pure anguish over missing out on the Switch 2. He wailed, "A...AAAAA...AAAAA...AAAAAAAHHHH..." and, in his moment of lottery-induced despair, declared that all his friends who won should be unfriended.

Hololive VTuber Shirakami Fubuki then retweeted his post, celebrating her own win, to which Nakamura playfully responded with a screenshot showing he had "blocked" her.
(In reality, Shirakami Fubuki is famously a huge fan of Yuichi Nakamura, even appearing on his YouTube show. The two actually have a good relationship, which is why they had this kind of interaction.)
However, some fans who love Hololive or primarily support Shirakami Fubuki were quite put off by Nakamura's antics. They insisted that such "unfunny behavior" would hurt Fubuki and that Holo fans "would not tolerate" Nakamura's actions. They expressed pity for Fubuki, pleading with him to stop "being silly for no reason."
Some fans even went as far as to exclaim, "Who are you?!" suggesting that his "jealousy" should take Fubuki's feelings into account. It was clear they didn't want their "Oshi" (favorite) to be hurt by this.

Netizens were puzzled, wondering how someone who primarily supports Shirakami Fubuki could not know Yuichi Nakamura. Nakamura is a highly popular voice actor, especially in recent years, having voiced countless anime characters. It seemed hard to believe that a Hololive fan wouldn't know who he is.

While these fans' actions were undoubtedly out of support for their Oshi, it left Japanese netizens bewildered. They felt Nakamura's behavior was clearly a playful jab between friends, and couldn't understand why some people took it as an act of harm. They questioned whether these supporters lacked common sense or logic, to perceive Nakamura as someone who would intentionally hurt others, especially without even understanding his relationship with Fubuki. After all, he's your Oshi's Oshi!
▼ One netizen shared a comparison: when Nakamura pulled the same "block" joke on voice actress Minami Takahashi, fans below were delighted and found it hilarious. In contrast, Shirakami Fubuki's supporters reacted with discontent.
This also left netizens feeling a bit annoyed with some Hololive supporters, suggesting they threw logic and humor out the window for their Oshi. They felt it wouldn't hurt to understand the relationship between the two before jumping to their Oshi's defense.

Some even screenshotted a comment from a Taiwanese netizen, pointing out that even people in Taiwan understood Nakamura's humor, so why were some getting angry and complaining? They urged people not to make Hololive supporters seem so "low quality."

While Yuichi Nakamura's "unfriend" joke on X after missing out on the Switch 2 sparked a wave of playful banter, it seems some fans just didn't get it. It left many wondering why such a joke would be perceived as hurtful.
Of course, this isn't to say all VTuber supporters are like this, but this particular incident involving Shirakami Fubuki left Japanese netizens scratching their heads.
