If you're into Gunpla, you've probably dabbled in all sorts of customization – painting, cutting, weathering, or even full-blown themed builds. It's all about making your model truly unique!
Today, we're spotlighting an incredible custom build based on the "HG 1/144 Zaku Police Type" Gunpla, released in April from the latest (fictional) Gundam anime, "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX." Twitter user Aota Reiji (@aota06) took inspiration from another iconic mecha series, "Patlabor," to transform the Zaku into the signature unit of character Isao Ota. The result is absolutely stunning and has garnered a ton of attention online!
Fans of "Patlabor" will definitely know Isao Ota. A member of Special Vehicles Section 2 (SV2), he's the quintessential muscle-bound, hot-headed, and justice-driven pilot. His overzealous piloting often leaves his Labor units heavily damaged and, much to the chagrin of the public, causes even more collateral damage to innocent buildings. This earned SV2 quite the notorious reputation!
Aota Reiji's Gunpla mod drew inspiration from an illustration by artist Kin-san ( @lovegenerator ), which depicted Isao Ota and the Zaku Police Type. Kin-san's artwork clearly shows Ota's Zaku with a prominent antenna on the side of its head and a cherry blossom police emblem on its chest.
The custom build faithfully recreates Kin-san's illustration, featuring a striking black and white paint scheme. The Zaku's head sports the distinctive antenna, the cherry blossom police emblem is proudly displayed on the chest, and the iconic police lights are perfectly replicated on both shoulder shields. To top it off, the armor even bears the "SV2-22" designation, signifying Special Vehicles Section 2, Unit 2.
This Zaku is also equipped with "Patlabor's" signature handgun, a police baton, and a shield emblazoned with "Metropolitan Police Department" – making it a dead ringer for Shinohara Heavy Industries' AV-98 "Ingram" from the series!
What do you think of this incredible Gunpla transformation? Since its release, the "HG 1/144 Zaku Police Type" has inspired many builders to create their own "Patlabor"-themed customs. Maybe it's time you gave it a shot too!
