Six years after the conclusion of the blockbuster horror film series "It," the franchise is expanding its universe this year with the prequel series "It: Welcome to Derry," heading to the small screen. Original film director Andy Muschietti returns as a producer and helms several episodes. Set to premiere on HBO Max this fall (with an exact date still under wraps), the series just dropped its first teaser trailer.

In addition to Andy Muschietti returning as executive producer and director, his sister, producer Barbara Muschietti, continues as a series creator and executive producer. Bill Skarsgård is also set to reprise his iconic role as Pennywise the Clown. "Wonder Woman" co-writer Jason Fuchs and "Tokyo Vice" co-writer Brad Kane serve as showrunners for the entire series.
"Welcome to Derry" draws inspiration from interstitial stories within Stephen King's original novel, exploring the origins of Pennywise. The series is planned for at least three seasons, with the first season set in 1962, the second in 1935, and the third in 1908, tracing the entity's history backward.
