Rockstar Quietly Hikes "Red Dead Redemption" PS4 Prices, Reigniting Gaming Pricing Debate

Rockstar Games, the acclaimed developer behind the "Grand Theft Auto" series, has quietly increased the digital prices of "Red Dead Redemption" and "Red Dead Redemption 2" on the UK PlayStation Store without prior announcement. This move has drawn significant attention from British players and reignited broader discussions about pricing trends within the video game industry.

Reports indicate that the PS4 port of the original "Red Dead Redemption," previously priced at £39.99, has now risen to £49.99. Similarly, "Red Dead Redemption 2," which had maintained a price of £54.99 since June 2021, has also seen a discreet increase to £59.99. The digital bundle for both titles has also jumped from £84.99 to £99.99, marking a substantial £15 hike.

Notably, this wave of price adjustments isn't confined to the UK PlayStation platform. According to ">Pure Xbox, similar price changes have been observed for the Xbox versions of the games in regions such as Brazil, the Czech Republic, and Chile. While Rockstar has not issued an official statement explaining the increases, the price changes have been live for over a week, leading to speculation that these are intentional updates by Rockstar rather than pricing errors.

The topic of game pricing has been a hot-button issue in the industry recently, especially with the impending release of "Grand Theft Auto VI." Players are concerned about whether the new title will break the $80 barrier, or even reach the rumored $100 price point.
