Qualia × Keiko Otsuhata "Dogu Dog" (ドッグゥ) Gashapon: Pets from Ancient Times, Unearthed!

Japanese gashapon toy brand Qualia has teamed up with Japanese Moso Kobo designer "Keiko Otsuhata" to release a set of ancient artifact-style animal-themed gashapon, "Dogu Dog" (ドッグゥ), in September 2025! There are five styles to collect, with a suggested retail price of 400 JPY per capsule.

Dogu Dog is a new project launched by Moso Kobo around December 2023. It combines the iconic Jomon period artifact, Dogu, with the appearance of dogs, creating pets that seem to come from ancient times. Visually, they exude a surreal charm, yet simultaneously possess an incredible sense of childlike wonder. In addition to various poses of Dogu Dogs, there are also endearing designs like heart-headed dogs and Maneki-Neko Dogu. The three-dimensional forms include soft vinyl toys, UV resin, and more.

▼ Some say Dogu Dogs don't poop! How naive!

Returning to this gashapon release, the "Dogu Dog" from Qualia is a three-dimensional model approximately 5 cm tall. While the five styles share the same pose, they feature distinct paint finishes, including "Original Color," deep reddish-brown "Terracotta," blue "Lapis Lazuli," oxidized bronze "Verdigris," and "Marble." Whichever one you get, you can't go wrong! The Japanese product name for this Dogu Dog series is also quite interesting, combining ドッグ (dog) and どぐう (dogu) into ドッグゥ, pronounced "Dogu." Even the name is adorable~
