The sequel to "M3GAN," titled "M3GAN 2.0," is slated for release later this month. While a third installment would be a certainty if the box office performance remains strong, whether it moves forward before those numbers are in remains to be seen. Consequently, director Gerard Johnstone (pictured below), who helmed both films, has already lined up new projects. Interestingly, Johnstone's latest endeavor also revolves around a doll-related theme, much like "M3GAN."

Johnstone's next directorial effort will be a live-action feature film adaptation of Mattel's popular doll franchise, "Monster High." While the doll line has spawned numerous animated projects and two made-for-streaming TV movies on Paramount+ in 2022 and 2023, this will mark its first theatrical release.
Universal Pictures, the studio behind the "M3GAN" franchise, will also distribute this film. Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman ("I Am Legend") and his production company, Weed Road, are also involved in the production. Details regarding the plot and character designs are currently under wraps, but Johnstone clearly brings valuable experience in directing films centered on doll protagonists.
