The classic manga series "Hell Teacher Nube," penned by Sho Makura and illustrated by Takeshi Okano, is undoubtedly a core childhood memory for many. When a new anime adaptation was announced, fans hailed it as a true renaissance, bringing back a beloved 30-year-old work to the screen.
And now, the first episode officially dropped yesterday (July 2), and while fans were hyped for the Reiwa-era Nube, they were hit with an unexpected blast from the past: the original opening theme, "Bari Bari Saikyou No.1," playing right in the episode! This retro, yet perfectly placed, moment instantly blew up online, with netizens exclaiming, "This arrangement is pure genius!"

The new anime kicks off right where it all began: Meisuke "Nube" Nueno's first day at Yomori Elementary's Class 5-3. Since rumors of him being a spirit-sensitive teacher had already spread, Nube tries to create a spooky atmosphere upon entering the classroom – a scene familiar to any manga reader.
But this time, as Nube steps in, his phone suddenly blares the iconic opening theme from the 1996 original anime, "Bari Bari Saikyou No.1"! Nube instantly panics, his attempt at a cool entrance completely ruined. XD
Even if you haven't seen the original anime, FEEL SO BAD's "Bari Bari Saikyou No.1" is likely recognizable. This rock anthem, famously blending its chorus with Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" from his Ninth Symphony, is a quintessential 90s anime classic in Japan.
Many viewers praised the animation team, noting that despite having a new OP and ED, they managed to seamlessly weave in the old classic without it feeling forced. Talk about dedication!
Speaking of new, the fresh opening theme, "P0WER-Akuryou Taisan-" by the band Shintenchi Kaibyaku Shudan ZIGZAG, is also pretty awesome!
