GASHAPON, the capsule toy brand of Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., has announced the latest product in its popular capsule toy series, 『ULTIMATE LUMINOUS』, which boasts ultimate sculpting and ultimate luminescence. The "DAICON FILM Version Return of Ultraman" is scheduled for release in March 2026.
《Return of Ultraman MAT ARROW No. 1 Sortie Order》 originated from the amateur film group "DAICON FILM," formed in 1981 by Hideaki Anno, Takami Akai, and Toshio Okada, who were then students at Osaka University of Arts. This 8mm film was produced to promote the "DAICON4" Japan SF Convention of that year. These special effects enthusiasts paid extensive homage to Tsuburaya Productions' "Ultraman" series in the 28-minute film. Although Ultraman, played by Hideaki Anno in the film, appears to be a young man in a jacket, the special effects techniques, computer animation, and props such as the fighter jets and the interior of the base used in the film were all of a considerably high standard. Over 40 years later, when the team led by Hideaki Anno officially produced "Shin Ultraman," this long-dormant work once again garnered significant attention.
The "ULTIMATE LUMINOUS DAICON FILM Version Return of Ultraman" product includes the "DAICON FILM Version Ultraman", portrayed by Hideaki Anno, and the enemy monster featured in the film, "Proliferating Monster Bagujeru". At a height of approximately 12 to 16 cm, the figures meticulously recreate their on-screen appearances and are finished with intricate color applications. Hideaki Anno's Ultraman can reproduce battle stances and his signature beam attack pose through interchangeable parts. The color timer on his chest and the monster's head both feature built-in LED light-up components.
