Manga artist Aka Akasaka's hit series, "Kaguya-sama: Love Is War," saw its manga conclude three years ago, but the anime adaptation has only reached three seasons with no further news—until now!
Following the New Year's Eve broadcast of the TV special "The First Kiss That Never Ends," official sources have confirmed a brand-new project: a completely original film titled "Kaguya-sama: Love Is War - The Movie: The Final Chapter." This exciting new movie is currently in active production, based on an entirely new story concept personally penned by original author Aka Akasaka. A special teaser video and comments from Akasaka himself were released simultaneously, though the official release date has yet to be announced.
Regarding this completely new, re-written story concept, Aka Akasaka shared:
"'Kaguya-sama' was a project I worked on with so many people, and it really showed me how much fun it is to create something together. The anime production team and I always had this idea, not just to simply adapt more of the manga, but to 'create something truly new, something no one has ever seen before, together.' We talked about it about four years ago, and everyone on the spot said, 'Let's do it!'"
He also candidly admitted, "The story already had a proper ending, so what kind of 'unnecessary addition' could I possibly throw in? I was genuinely scared and excited during that time. Then, one day, an idea suddenly hit me, and in that instant, I knew, 'This is it!' I also thought, 'The anime team is probably going to have a tough time with this (laughs).' We've been working on 'Kaguya-sama' for almost eight years, and now I'm dropping such a huge challenge on them; they're probably all tearing their hair out. But hey, it's probably the last time, so I'm sure they'll forgive me for throwing a few curveballs. I truly trust this team. I hope to deliver a 'fresh yet nostalgic' completely new work – and quite possibly the final 'Kaguya-sama' – to everyone."
This announcement also implies that there likely won't be a fourth season following the three existing TV anime seasons. Instead, the anime adaptation will conclude with this newly written story in movie form.
Given that the third season's ending still left a significant portion of the manga's story untouched, fans are naturally curious to see how this brand-new plot will bring the series to its ultimate conclusion.
