BANDAI SPIRITS' Collectors Division, TAMASHII NATIONS, based in Japan, has announced the second product in its "S.H.Figuarts (True Bone Carving Method)" series, which sculpts from the skeleton up to give Tokusatsu heroes their original cool appearance and natural articulation. This new item, "Thunder Gridman," from the Tokusatsu series Gridman the Hyper Agent, is scheduled for release in August 2026.
Gridman was originally a HYPER AGENT, an energy lifeform without a physical body, who came to the human world to pursue the interdimensional criminal "Demon King Kahn Digifer." He resided in the assembled computer "JUNK" in the secret base of the three protagonists, Naoto Sho, Ippei Baba, and Yuka Inoue, taking on the form designed by Ippei. When Kahn Digifer unleashed monsters to attack the computer world, Gridman merged with Naoto to stop them, and could combine with three support machines—the Thunder Jet, Twin Driller, and God Tank—programmed by Yuka, to become the more powerful "Thunder Gridman."
The "S.H.Figuarts (True Bone Carving Method) Thunder Gridman" is produced with an articulated specification of approximately 18.5 cm in height. Action actor Hiroyuki Okano, who wore the Gridman suit during filming, was invited to have his entire body 3D scanned, modeled, and then sculpted into the base body, thoroughly reproducing Gridman's physique from the show. The overall design was meticulously supervised by Tsuburaya Productions' LSS modeling department and Takafumi Tanibuchi, who was responsible for creating the original Gridman suit, faithfully recreating the detailed design and colors of the suit from the series. In addition to using precisely sculpted parts, this product also utilizes transfer printing to express fine lines and color blocks.
In terms of articulation, some of Thunder Gridman's body parts are also made of soft vinyl to recreate the exposed body parts after Gridman's combination. Joints such as the shoulder and hip joints utilize pull-out mechanisms and other designs to enhance the range of motion, and the front end of the foot armor features an articulated structure to improve ground contact.
Weapon accessories include two interchangeable hand sculpts, and a special move "Thunder Gridman Beam" effect part that can be attached to the hand. The twin shoulder drill parts can also be detached and combined with a stand to recreate attack scenes. Furthermore, it can be linked with the separately sold "S.H.Figuarts (True Bone Carving Method) Gridman" to equip weapons formed by combining the Ion Sword and Barrier Shield. Parts such as the shoulders, wrists, and legs can also be detached and combined with the Gridman main body to recreate the combination sequence.
