Japanese toy manufacturer BRIGHT LINK (株式会社ブライトリンク) is set to release a very interesting animal-themed capsule toy, the "Flying Hippo" (tentative translation, 空飛ぶカバ), in late April 2026! The suggested retail price is 400 JPY per turn, with a total of four designs to collect.
This "Flying Hippo" is sculpted by Japanese animal sculptor "Shimura Ryo" (shimura.ryo), who loves hippos. From the plump body of the hippo, the jetpack, and the cape, to the fantastical white wings, all are brand new prototypes created with capsule toy production in mind.
From the current official images, the chubby, short hippo exhibits a realistic biological feel, and its seemingly smiling expression conveys an air of confidence. The details of the jet propulsion device and the dynamic sculpting of the red cape are all spectacular! Of course, the Flying Hippo without any accessories, simply showcasing Shimura Ryo's aesthetic, is also super cute! We're really looking forward to this piece.
The four designs of "Flying Hippo" include:
● Flying Mini Hippo (空飛ぶミニカバさん)
● Flying Jet Rocket Hippo (空飛ぶジェットロケットカバさん)
● Super Flying Hippo (スーパー空飛ぶカバさん)
● Flying Winged Hippo (空飛ぶつばさカバさん)
