The theatrical anime film, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway - Circe's Witch, officially hit Japanese theaters late last month (January 30th) and has since garnered rave reviews from fans, with its box office performance exceeding expectations.
Today (February 10th), the official team dropped the latest box office numbers: in just 11 days, the film has already blasted past the ¥1.5 billion mark in cumulative box office revenue! This is a massive leap compared to the first installment. Meanwhile, Taiwanese anime distributor Medialink has officially announced that "Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway" will premiere in Taiwan on March 8th, followed by "Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway - Circe's Witch" on March 13th.
Kicking off on January 30th across 431 screens in Japan, including IMAX, the film pulled in an impressive ¥840 million and drew 510,000 moviegoers in its first three days. This represents a staggering 162% increase in box office compared to the first "Hathaway" film, released in 2021. The momentum is incredible, and many are betting it could even surpass the previous film's final box office of ¥2.23 billion.
On a side note, the current highest-grossing film in the "Gundam" movie series remains "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM," which premiered in January 2024 and has grossed over ¥5 billion. Surpassing that record will be quite a challenge!
For all the fans eagerly awaiting "Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway - Circe's Witch," anime distributor Medialink also announced today on their official Facebook page that the first film, "Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway," will hit Taiwanese cinemas on March 6th. The sequel, "Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway - Circe's Witch," will follow just a week later on March 13th, giving everyone the chance to catch both epic films on the big screen!
