TYPE-MOON, renowned for games and anime adaptations like "Tsukihime" and the "Fate" series, announced back in 2021 that its visual novel game, "Mahoutsukai no Yoru," would be getting an anime film adaptation. However, years passed with little to no updates.
Today (2/21), animation studio ufotable dropped a surprise announcement, unveiling new footage and confirming a 2026 release for the film, much to the delight of long-awaiting fans.

"Mahoutsukai no Yoru" is a visual novel game developed and released by Japan's TYPE-MOON. Originally an unreleased and unfinished work by Kinoko Nasu, it was completed thanks to the strong recommendation of Takashi Takeuchi. The game itself launched in 2012, with a remastered version released later.

This title shares the same universe as TYPE-MOON's other famous works, "Tsukihime," "Fate/stay night," and "The Garden of Sinners." It features the mage Aoko Aozaki from "Tsukihime" as its protagonist, with Touko Aozaki from "The Garden of Sinners" also appearing as a key character. Even Misaki Town, where the story unfolds, shows up in "Tsukihime"—a familiar sight for any TYPE-MOON fan!
After nearly five years, the official new footage is finally here, with the film slated for a 2026 release. As for more specific details, we'll have to wait for future official announcements. Stay tuned for more info!
