The "ROBOT SPIRITS" series of collectible robot action figures, released by BANDAI SPIRITS' TAMASHII NATIONS collector's division in Japan, has announced the upcoming release of the latest product from the animated film "Mobile Police Patlabor EZY", the "AV-98Plus Ingram Kai Unit 1", scheduled for August 2026.
"Mobile Police Patlabor EZY" continues the series' timeline, with its story set in 2030s Japan, where the labor force is increasingly dwindling. Multi-legged bipedal heavy machinery (Labors), once considered cutting-edge technology, have now become an integral part of the social infrastructure. However, with the continuous development of AI and automation technology, Labors requiring human operation are gradually being replaced by autonomous robots, becoming obsolete. Despite the changing times, the Metropolitan Police Department Security Division Special Vehicle Section 2 continues its mission to protect people and the city. Protagonist Kuga Towa, belonging to the Second Platoon, and the "AV-98Plus Ingram", an improved version of an older model, work together, using their intelligence and courage to combat ever-evolving technological crimes.
The "AV-98Plus Ingram", operated by the Special Vehicle Section 2's Second Platoon in the 2030s and piloted by protagonist Kuga Towa, is a comprehensively improved version based on the "Type 98 AV Ingram" released in 1998. Both its control system software and mechanical hardware performance have been significantly enhanced. Furthermore, the pilot's head-mounted device utilizes AR (Augmented Reality) Head-Up Display technology, allowing pilots to confirm necessary information without shifting their gaze during operation.
The "ROBOT SPIRITS AV-98Plus Ingram Kai Unit 1" is立体化 (rendered in three dimensions) at an approximate height of 13 cm, based on the anime's design specifications. It faithfully recreates the more detailed styling of the improved Ingram, meticulously reproducing details such as the shoulder police lights and chest emblem. Text and numbering on various parts like the shoulder armor, backpack, and shield are reproduced via tampo printing. The head can also recreate the visor-closed appearance through interchangeable parts.
Numerous joints, including those in the shoulders, waist, and hip, feature flexible articulation, allowing for dynamic poses such as kneeling and holding a gun with both hands. Among its armaments, the long and short "stun sticks" can be reproduced in their shield-stored state and baton form using interchangeable parts. The "revolver" can be stored in the right calf armor, and combined with the right arm frame part, it can recreate the state of the hand extending and retracting to draw the gun.
