The HOBBY Division of BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd. Japan, which offers the most diverse range of mobile suits in its 1/144 scale Gunpla 'HG (High Grade)' series, has announced the latest product, "HG 1/144 D Gundam Unit 2," from the 1988 manga Mobile Suit Gundam Double Fake, scheduled for release in May 2026. This product will be sold exclusively on BANDAI's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI.
The story of Mobile Suit Gundam Double Fake is set in Universal Century 0090. The protagonist, Dally, is an operative working for "Monoton Mouse Company," a subsidiary of Anaheim Electronics. His passion for Gundam is almost fanatical, and he successfully assembled a "D Gundam" using various mobile suit scraps. This mobile suit was originally Dally's hobby for engineering work, but thanks to its use of contemporary advanced materials, it performs exceptionally well even in combat. After Dally became embroiled in a battle with the terrorist "Kalad," the D Gundam was gradually modified into combat specifications with the assistance of the Federation Forces.
The "HG 1/144 D Gundam Unit 2" is a modification of the D Gundam Unit 1 kit. It utilizes numerous newly sculpted armor, thruster, and armament parts to reproduce Unit 2, which was extensively modified into combat specifications after Unit 1 was damaged. The design faithfully recreates its characteristic patchwork appearance, exposed pipelines, hydraulic rods, and other mechanical frame structures. It also features highly flexible modern-standard articulated joints, reproducing the deployment mechanism of the twin arm "Crush Gauntlets" and the nozzle interlocking mechanism when the thrusters deploy.
The armament accessories not only include the "7 types of tools" already present in Unit 1, such as the work rivet gun, drill gun, wire-guided bomb, and magnetic anchor, but also add various new combat armaments, including a "wired beam rifle," two "beam sabers," and a "rocket launcher." The yellow shield is reproduced with a new design and features an original model mechanism. Its interior can store armaments like the rivet gun, magnetic anchor, large adhesive bombs, and decoy flares, similar to Unit 1's shield specifications.
